Pickle It: Community Root Cellar Oct 6, 2010

A fieldfaring project

SMITHS hosted a "putting up" party and PICKLE IT workshop with Ted and me. We proposed starting a community root cellar at SMITHS, wherein homemade jams, honey, pickles, sauces, vinegars, beer, kraut, beets, and more are collected along with stories about food, labor, family, land, economy, and love. The preserves would be served at public events throughout SMITHS' programming year. We hoped this would become an annual event for replenishing the pantry.

These lively gatherings engage participants in conversations about the rich social and political histories embedded within various craft traditions."
