Interview with Dr. Rauri Bowie, professor and curator at the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology at UC Berkeley.
Contribution to a social project Disappearing Birds of North America (which now has a new name) organized by Jen De Los Reyes. ~370 artists represent North American birds threatened by climate change, to published by the Audubon Society in Fall 2027.
I live next door to the Bowie family in El Cerrito, California. All four are birders. Over the years they have assisted me in identify birds and songs in the neighborhood and gifted me drawings of an array of bird species that I used for wrapping paper once they cam off the frig. Through proximity I have felt the rush of the identification of a new bird species whether in California or Indonesia where Rauri travels for research.
In January, I made visits to Tilden Park in Berkeley to have a look for Varied Thrush where they can be seen traveling through at that time. I spent a few days watching and waiting without luck, so I welcomed the opportunity to visit Rauri at the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology at UC Berkeley, where he is the curator, to see their collection of Varied Thrush.
Special Thanks to Rauri!
